Johannes Brahms made this left-hand transcription of J.S. Bach's monumental Chaconne from the Partita for Violin, No. 2. Pianist Orion Weiss says it was the first piece he learned when the pandemic ended concert performances in 2020. "It seemed the perfect piece for the moment," he says, "the piano is already such a lonely instrument, but playing it with only one hand seems to double the bittersweet feeling of isolation and solitude."
Интересно, в чём эффект таких ограничений (одна левая рука). Примерно как Довлатов убирал из фразы слова, начинающиеся с той же буквы.
Согласно Брамсу, скрипачи получают такую же радость от игры, как однорукие пианисты.
There is only one way in which I can secure undiluted joy from the piece, though on a small and only approximate scale, and that is when I play it with the left hand alone…. The same difficulty, the nature of the technique, the rendering of the arpeggios, everything conspires to make me feel like a violinist!
